Adult acne is a common skin problem, however it can be treated with the right acne solutions. The reason people get acne is due to hormonal fluctuations as well as some prescription medicine.

When you have acne a regular cleansing routine should be implemented. There are four main steps to this and they are: cleansing, exfoliating, toning and moisturising. Make sure you use the correct product that is suited to your skin type.

Eating the right diet is also beneficial if you have acne. Be sure to include plenty of vitamin A, some of these are spinach, beef liver and carrots. Also, the source of zinc can be found in meats, whole grain cereals, peanuts and crabmeat.

Following these tips will help you with your acne.

Sometimes it doesn’t matter how much water we drink or how little coffee and alcohol we don’t drink. If you’re not using the write skincare your skin can lose essential moisture creating fine lines and a ‘crepey’ appearance. While professional treatments represent a large percentage of your skincare program, the right homecare is just has important.

Guinot’s Sources of Hydration range is especially formulated to combat dehydration with deep cellular action from the deep layers of the skins epidermis. Featured in this month’s INSTYLE MAGAZINE “10 of the BEST” is Guinot’s Masque Hydra Beaute. This masque drenches dehydrated skin in moisture and erases signs of fatigue. It is a non-setting deliciously creamy textured mask offering instant hydration (particularly good for flight attendants, frequent flyers and smokers)

Say Goodbye to unwanted Facial Hair

What is electrolysis? During electrolysis a tiny probe the same size as
the hair is gently inserted into the hair follicle down to the papilla
(the part that nourishes the hair). A very low electrical current
destroys the papillae, ending further hair growth. Is electrolysis
painful? Until now the electric current used in the process was
transmitted at a fixed intensity, resulting in an unpleasant sensation.
Is it really permanent? Electrolysis, is the only permanent hair removal
method recognized and practiced by the medical community and licensed
Electrologist How long does it take? The number of treatments required
depends on several factors:

* The area being treated
* How much hair is
* Hormones
* Adherence to the schedule of appointments (determined by the
electrologist in according with the hair growth phase)
* Tolerance for the procedure

How much does it cost? Electrolysis costs no more than other beauty and skin care treatments. However, once completed, it has the advantage of being permanent; it lasts a lifetime. Unlike laser, which only works on pigment in dark hair, electrolysis is effective on both light and dark hair. Is it safe?
Professional electrologists maintain the strictest standards of hygiene. Sterile disposable needles are used once only ensuring your complete safety. Areas of the body where electrolysis is most commonly used For women: Hairline Eyebrows Cheeks Upper lip Chin Neck

APPLYING FOUNDATION – QUICK GUIDE
Anyone can fake perfect skin – it’s all down to choosing the right colour and learning how to apply it.
1. Remove any existing foundation – you can only judge what works on bare skin.
2. Pick three shades closest to your skin tone and apply them in thick stripes from the cheekbone to the jaw.
3. Check in daylight. Preferably go outside or stand by the window and look in a hand mirror- the shade that disappears is the right one for you.
4. Wait before buying. The skin’s acidity can change the colour of foundation, so let it settle for a while to see how it reacts with your skin.
5. You should have one shade for summer and a paler foundation to mix with for the winter months.

DO’S AND DON’TS
DO build up gradually – it’s easier to add than remove
DON’T put concealer on first – it will get wiped off as you blend
DO blend, blend, blend – foundation should never be visible
DON’T use foundation to add colour – that’s what blusher is for
DO let foundation settle – before moving on to the next stage
DON’T cover up perfect skin – show it off instead

DO YOU REALLY KNOW WHAT COLOURS FLATTER YOU?
The first thing a make-up artist or stylist will do is decide whether you are either warm or cool. To look at, warm types have peach or yellow undertones to their skin. Cool types have pink or blue undertones. A quick way to determine what type you are is to look at your wrist and inner arm. Are your veins tinged with green? You’re warm. Or are they blue? You’re cool. Another way is to hold up an A4 size of gold coloured paper under your chin, then a silver one. The right colour will light up your face and give you a healthy glow. The wrong one will make you look washed out and sallow. But what if you’re neither warm nor cool and both cards give a similar result? Fear not! You’re one of those lucky people who are neutral. This means you can look great in virtually any colour, as long as it’s subtle. Best colours are muted blues and greens, aubergine, charcoal and classic shades like taupe, oyster, camel and cream but stark black and white can be overpowering.

There are many variations of warm and cool types. Such as:
COOL LIGHT: The classic cool light has hair that is ashy blonde or white. Their eyes are pale blue, blue-grey, cool green or hazel and their skin is usually milky white, with a tendency to go pink or burn easily when exposed to the sun.
Best Colours: Eyes sparkle in pale silver, aqua, sky blue or lilac. Cheeks glow in baby pinks and lips look pretty in pale pink glosses.
Worst Colours: Apricot and gold can make cool eyes seem red and tired, while heavy kohl pencil and black mascara can look overpowering. Bright tangerine on the lips only works if you have a tan.
COOL MEDIUM: The English roses of the group. Cool mediums have brown or medium to dark blonde hair. Their eyes are usually brown or blue, sometimes with a hint of grey or green. Their skin is milky, often with rosy cheeks, and they tan slowly.
Best colours: Slate greys, denim blues, cool taupes and charcoal browns add definition to the eyes, cheeks bloom in dusky pink and lips look best in pinks that have a hint of blue, such cerise.
Worst Colours: Lime greens can make you look unwell and any shade of orangey brown on the cheeks or lips will drain your face of colour.
COOL DARK: The trademark of a Cool Dark is hair that is deep brown or jet black, which glints inky blue in the sun. Eyes are bright blue, cool grey, pale green or hazel and skin colour ranges from the palest white through to the darkest black.
Best colours: Black, cool purple and blue (ranging from bright electrics to deep navy hues) add drama to the eyes, while deep pink blushers and blue-red or burgundy lipsticks always look stunning.
Worst Colours: Pearlescent peachy pastels wash out cool grey, pale green or hazel, and skin colour ranges from the palest white through to the darkest black.
WARM LIGHT: Think strawberry blonde, golden or auburn hair that has a warm glow in the sunshine. Their eyes are hazel, green or blue-green and their skin is peaches and cream, often with freckles.
Best Colours: Delicate colours like champagne, ivory, honey and pale green make the eyes sparkle. Salmon pink brings the cheeks to life and a slick of apricot lip gloss or a dramatic fire engine red will make the lips look fantastic.
Worst Colours: Black can be too intense if applied to heavily to the eyes. Bright pinks look garish and pale lilacs can make warm skins look lifeless.
WARM MEDIUM: These are classic redheads. Their hair is auburn, chestnut brown or deep brown that glows golden in the sun. They have green, brown, hazel or blue-green eyes and their skin is peachy or olive with a tendency to tan deeply.
Best colours: Earthy browns and olive greens flatter the eyes, sheer bronzers bring warmth to the cheeks and coral or golden berry browns look stunning on the lips.
Worst colours: Clean whites, icy pastels and cool purples make eyes look puffy and tired, while fuchsia pink and burgundy are no-nose for the lips.
WARM DARK: Easily recognised by their chestnut brown, mahogany or black hair and their brown, hazel or green eyes. Their skin tans deeply and is either olive, Asian or black (Halle Berry is a classic warm dark).
Best Colours: Bronze, warm chocolate brown, leafy green and aubergine look amazing swept over the eyes. Cheeks look dramatic in deep terracotta and lips look exceptional in flame red or nude glosses.
Worst colours: Silvery metallics look washed out on the eyes, while blue-pinks stand out rather than sit comfortably on the lips and cheeks.

THE BENEFITS OF EXFOLIATING YOUR BODY
Apart from removing dead, dry skin exfoliation has many benefits and can be done in several ways. Do it regularly and you’ll transform dry skin, reduce cellulite and tone up problem areas.
For an instant feel-good, look good buzz, body brushing is ideal. In just three minutes you’ll feel invigorated. Do it 2-3 times a week and you’ll notice your skin is smoother and looks more toned. At the same time you’ll be giving your circulation a wake up call whilst stimulating your lymphatic system, which is responsible for removing cellulite-causing waste from the body.
DRY BRUSHING: Must be done on dry skin to avoid stretching the skin. Do it in an upwards motion towards your heart.
WET EXFOLIATION: Can be done in the shower with a body scrub (beads or granules) and mitts (supermarket or pharmacy). Try making your own body scrub! It’s a little messier but the results are amazing.
Recipe for Body Scrub
• 1 tbl spoon of milk powder (supermarket)
• 1 tbl spoon of raw sugar
• 2 tbl spoon olive oil
• 1 tbl spoon honey
• 3 drops of essential oil eg lavender (optional)
The above recipe contains glycolic (from honey) and lactic (milk powder) acids which help slough away dead skin cells and soften the skin for an even silkier result.
BODY BENEFITS
• Sloughs away dead, dry skin and softens hard skin
• Speeds up skin cell renewal, revealing new layers that look and feel softer and smoother
• Helps break down fatty deposits and reduce cellulite, making your bum and thighs look more taught and toned
• Stimulates blood flow and leaves you with a healthy glow
• Aids lymphatic drainage, so that you’re body gets better at eliminating waste and toxins
• Boosts oxygen circulation and gives your body a mini workout
• Helps reduce ingrown hairs

For a more indulgent experience, book in a body polish (9361 5188 or email: mariegaibeauty@bigpond.com). Perfect before a spray tan or massage.

WHICH CLEANSER IS RIGHT FOR YOUR SKIN?
Your skin is a living, breathing organ and is the first and most obvious sign of a good cleansing routine. If you use a cleanser that your skin doesn’t like, your face will feel taut and uncomfortable, and your complexion will look flaky, shiny or even dull and grey.
Your skin’s pH balance is 5.5. Products with higher or lower pH balances will distress your skin and cause dryness, oiliness or blemishes. That’s why regular soap (the kind you wash your hands with) isn’t good for your face. The skin on your hands has a different pH balance to the skin on your face and neck, so by using soap can disturb the skin’s defences and cause irritation. Cleansers that are specifically designed for facial skin are a better option and, with such a wide range on the market, you shouldn’t have a problem finding on that helps you look and feel really clean.

To find the right cleanser you first need to know your skin type.
e) Irritated

3. HOW VISIBLE ARE YOUR PORES
a) Nearly invisible
b) Clearly visible
c) Visible when close up
d) Clearly visible on the T-zone and visible when close up on the cheeks
e) Any one of these
4. DOES WHAT YOU EAT AND DRINK AFFECT YOUR SKIN?
a) Drinking alcohol makes my skin feel dryer
b) My skin feels greasier when I eat fried foods
c) No, I can eat what I want without affecting my skin
d) I get breakouts on my T-zone when I don’t eat enough fresh food

THE RIGHT WAY TO CLEANSE YOUR FACE
Fresh, clean skin is the basis of a beautiful face – get your cleansing routine right and your skin will glow with good health.
The biggest favour you can ever do for your skin is to cleanse it properly. A regular cleansing routine – last thing and night and first thing in the morning – removes dirt, sweat, make-up, pollution, dead skin cells and bacteria that coat your complexion, block your pores and results in whiteheads, blackheads, dryness, oiliness and blemishes. Plus, proper cleansing enables your skin to renew itself more quickly, giving you a radiant glow. It also ensures that your skin is more receptive to moisturisers, toners and other facial treatments.
Remember that it’s important to cleanse both morning and night. Cleansing before you go to bed is most important as your face is coated in the daily grime, makeup and perhaps sunscreen. You don’t need to spend so much time cleansing in the morning, but don’t skip it. While you’re sleeping your skin is active producing sebum and shedding dead skin cells. So if you don’t cleanse when you get up, your make-up will go over blocked pores which will inevitable result in congestion and spots. Cleansing softens and prepares your skin to absorb your skincare such as moisturiser and or active ingredients. It also gives you a clean base in which to evenly apply makeup.
Remember to use a muslin face wash cloth or wet, soft face towel to gently wipe cleanser away. This also helps to exfoliate away any remaining impurities.
After cleansing your skin always follow up with a toner suited to your skin type. This will allow deeper absorption of products you apply (day or night cream, serums etc). Try Guinot Lotion Hydra Confort for Dry Skin or Lotion Hydra Fraicheur All Skin for normal skin

The perfect brow frames the eye very well

A well defined brow can really open up your face. It’s important to remember that other factors come into play when creating the perfect brow. How do your brows grow naturally? Are they straight or arched? The height of your forehead and hairstyle also contribute to creating a brow that really suits you. Tinting is a great option to create definition and fill in ‘patches’ where hair growth is sparse. Brow powders and pencils also give extra life to your tint to help it last longer. If you’ve never had your brows professionally shaped and tinted you’d be amazed at what a difference it will make to your features. If you’re not sure or lack confidence in shaping your own brows, seeking the expertice of a professional is a wise choice. Removing as little as one or two hairs can make or break the shape (worse still, the hair may not grow back!)
